World PMV Games 2023 – The Hotel – A WSRB PMV

This year’s theme for the games was "create a narrative" so went about as literal with that as I could and created something best described as a PMV comic. The story is meant to be cheesy; so feel free to let your eyes roll as much as want, because it is pretty groan worthy.
The visual effects seen in the PMV aren’t filters baked into my editing program, but in fact animations created by breaking the standard video down into individual frames and then converting them into sketch-like images in a photo editing program. The broken down sketch/images were then recompiled into a full video that was then layered over top of the original. The fading from "comic" to video was simply adjusting opacity.
The full cartoon-style effects were created by pre-selecting segments of the video, then taking the corresponding individual sketch style images and using the cartoon setting in an app called BeFunky to create the cartoon style. As there was no batch conversion mode for the cartoon setting, each frame had to fed through manually one at a time, which was: first, a very tedious process; and second, a valuable lesson why no one does traditional animation at more than 24 frames per second (stupid me did it all at 30fps). The finished animated segments were then placed into another layer in the appropriate spots, and blending in by adjusting opacity.
Then after all that, of course we used Topaz Video AI to create the 60 fps version that we have here, just to really drive home the uncanny valley feeling.
All in all, this thing was a real bitch to make. So, of course I’ve decided to do a bunch more like this. Stay tooned for those. Cuming… eventually.
